The Eighth annual Port Orford Jerry Can Race was held on a picture perfect day at the Port Orford Heads State Park. Results and photos are posted on the event page - click on the image to the left or the link above.

Seventh Annual Knot Competition
In our best showing to date, some real competitors showed their stuff "on the ropes."

Coast Guard Day Observance
August 3
 

Our second free concert in the park, complete with a tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard. We plan to make this a tradition - the first Sunday of August.

The seventh annual Pornt Orford Jerry Can Race - probably the best iteration of the annual classic - was run under cloudy skies at the Port Orford Heads State Park. Results and photos are posted on the event page - click on the image to the left or the link above.

Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance

The fifth annual Point Orford Heritage Society fundraiser was held October 1, 2005 at the Port Orford Community Building. We raised almost $7000 for museum projects and continued boat restoration.  Thanks to all our members, sponsors and donors for their generous support!

Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance

The fourth annual Point Orford Heritage Society fundraiser was held October 2, 2004 at the Port Orford Community Building. Dinner catered by the Port and Starboard Restaurant and dancing to the tunes of Timberwolf!  The event generated over $5000 for the museum and boat projects.

Port Orford Annual Holiday Bazaar

The Holiday Bazaar was a successful event for the Society, grossing over $1,000 and clearing out much of our 2003 Gift Locker inventory - maiking way for the 2004 season. 
Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance

The third annual Point Orford Heritage Society fundraiser was held October 4, 2003 at the Port Orford Community Building. Dinner catered by the Port and Starboard Restaurant and dancing to the tunes of Timberwolf!  The event benefitted the restoration fund for CG 36498.

Coast Guard Day Observance
August 3
On August 4, 1790, President George Washington signed into law a bill creating the Revenue Cutter Service.  In 1915, the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service to form the U.S. Coast Guard.  The Lighthouse Service became part of the Coast Guard in 1939.  This year's observance included appearances by World War II station veteran Ezra Ross and an award to long-time supporter Warren Hulburt, as well as the art of Jim Davenport and our own Elaine Reomen.

Knot Competition
July 4 - Gusty north winds, but lots of sunshine, made it difficult to keep the "firing system" (punk and firecrackers...) on the Lyle gun working during the parade.

July 5 - A picture perfect day on the Heads - high-60's to low 70's, light winds out of the north, lots of sunshine.  The Jerry Can Races and Knot Tying Competition were well-attended and lots of fun.

The Society annual meeting, held each year in February, elected a new slate of officers and directors.

Chautauqua Program Series
The Society, in partnership with the Port Orford Arts Council, sponsored a series of programs endowed by the Oregon Council for the Humanities.

Port Orford Annual Holiday Bazaar
December 7
At the bazaar, the Point Orford Heritage Society set up the Gift Locker at the Port Orford community building.  As part of our ongoing efforts to raise money for museum improvements, we offered new station coffee mugs, station logo shirts and custom made dog tags.  Besides helping the bottom line, it was a fun event.  Thanks to Breuer Construction for moving the dog tag machine.

Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance

The second annual Point Orford Heritage Society fundraiser dinner-dance was held at the Community Building on Saturday, October 5, 2002.  Dinner catered by Frank Smith was followed by dancing to the tunes of Timberwolf.

Port Orford/North Curry County Chamber of Commerce History Mixer
September 23
The Port Orford Lifeboat Station was the venue for the Port Orford/North Curry County Chamber of Commerce History Mixer.  Representatives from the Point Orford Heritage Society, the Friends of Cape Blanco (the Historic Hughes House and Cape Blanco Lighthouse), the Joan of Arc vacation rental, and the Black Auto Museum made short presentations.

Coast Guard Day
August 4
On August 4, 1790, President George Washington signed into law a bill creating the Revenue Cutter Service.  In 1915, the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service to form the U.S. Coast Guard.  The Lighthouse Service became part of the Coast Guard in 1939.  This year's observance included dedication of the new flagpole in honor of Chief Petty Officer Billie Fritts, a Coast Guard art show by Coos Bay artist Jim Davenport, and a flag donation by the widow of former officer in charge Art Hinderlie.

Rep DeFazio presents flag to Society President Viola Cuatt Flag Presentation
August 23
Representative Peter DeFazio presents a U.S. flag to Society President Viola Cuatt.  Representative DeFazio donated the flag after arranging for it to be flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of the men who served at the Port Orford Lifeboat Station from 1934 to 1970.
